Health Tip #14,
28 November 1996
Yes, I know.... This is kinda stretching it as a Health Tip topic. But, I figure, today is Thanksgiving, so, like, since hardly anybodyís gonna be reading this anyway, why not have a little fun? The topic is relevant today anyway since Thanksgiving celebrates our Pilgrim ancestors, one of many groups of early "alien invaders" to North America. Besides, thereís a certain guy on the 5th floor who is obsessed with drawing alien creatures on the lounge chalkboard, so maybe this is a topic that is actually needed right now! There are dozens of alien invasion movies: Independence Day, Star Trek 8: First Contact, Communion, Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, and, V. But are there really UFOs?
Carl Sagan calculated that there are millions of inhabited worlds across the universe and, indeed, the number of known planets in the Milky Way has more than doubled in the last two years. In August we found the first evidence that microscopic life might have once existed on Mars. But, UFOs visiting Earth? There are scores of conspiracy theories about crashed ships, alien autopsies, and abductions by the blues and the grays, but there is no concrete evidence that any of this is true.
Doing a search on the Internet, though, one discovers literally thousands of webpages devoted to extra-terrestrials and other unexplained phenomena. It seems that everybody has his own theory, puts its online, and makes it appear to be fact. The Internet would have you believe that Atlantis was occupied by 4th-dimensional beings who were "Sliders" between worlds, that Lucifer lived on Mars where the "face" is located, that the Moon is an artificial satellite placed here from Ursa Minor, that the Great Pyramid was built by extra-terrestrials.... The list goes on and on. Granted, there are many, many unexplained things in this world, and perhaps much of what is listed on the Internet does have some truth to it, but, still, it is best for us to take these things "with a grain of salt" until there is some real evidence because there are no standards for the distribution of information on the web. Anybody can upload anything they want and make it look as if it were real.
I definitely believe there are aliens out there, but as to whether or not they are visiting Earth, much as Iíd like to believe that, I need to see more evidence first. At this point, aliens are just our current mythology, much like the giants and elves of old. I admit that lots of the evidence is compelling especially the mathematics and geography of the Great Pyramid but until there is real, scientific proof, Donít Panic. It is always healthy to have a little bit of skepticism. The Truth is Out There.
